I have a 40GB PS3 (37GB usable HD space) with about 35GB of games and stuff on it. So I bought a 320GB PS3 (298GB usable HD space) and transfer all of my data over from the 40GB. So I checked how much space that I had available on the 320GB and it said 233GB. WTF? If I had 298 and transfered 35 over to it I should have 263GB of free space. What happened to the other 30GB?

Bain, they calculate hardrive sizes differently in Texas. 320 - 35 = 233. Makes sense to me. In California, we just call that MEGAGIGABYTES son!

On a serious note. The way the PS3 partitions the hardrive is not a simple mathematical subtraction. It's a percentage of the total available space. I don't know what the two partition rates are, but let's say it's 10%. On the 20 gb, the system will hold 10% (2gb) for system resources and recovery. On a 320 gb, it will hold 32gb. A lot of people have complained about this, but Sony is going to keep it this way. And thinking about it, I believe the percentage is larger than 10%.
