on Friday I decided to download the Beta version of MAG, a game that on Paper is very similar to MW2 .... However, the similarities end at the conceptual underpinnings.
gentlemen MAG is an AWESOME FPS I recommend everyone get this as I'm as addicted to MAG
as I was when I popped in UT3.
As many of you know I own MW2 and after playing for a month and ranking up to 30 im totally bored with it, there never was a day where I could consistently play MW2 and not want to put in UT3 .... with MAG i don't want to stop playing!
Ill still be playing UT3 as I still enjoy it, but if we're ever going to move on as a clan to another FPS
this is a terrfic game to get in on the ground floor.
The release date is 1/26/2010 ... after I eat lunch I'll list all the reasons for its awsomeness.

to bad the beta is now closed and i can't get the demo. i did look at it before hand and i wasn't too sure. but i've been watching a lot more vids on it. if the scale of action is that intense, i just might get this. but what's the premise for the game? i know there are objectives from what i've seen, but can i trust you guys with that???? lol ------------- If Gravity is a "P" and the Sun is an "H", it makes a FFFFFFF. |

for me i don't think so ether, the game comes in Mexico in 1 or 2 weeks after the oficial sales. but sometimes comes a next month.

Well the DEMO is over i played it all weekend and leveled up to 10 so i could unlock domination.
Here we go:
1. The graphics on this game are by far superior to MW2, the game simply looks better.
2. The gameplay is much smoother and movement gives you some advantage,
Don't get me wrong this isnt a fast paced FPS like UT3 but its not like MW2 were you
camp crouch and kill.
3. Sniping is more difficult than in MW2 making it better on both sides; more of a challenge when u
do snipe and easier to get across the map if you're assaulting.
4. In mW2 there is a clear incentive to CAMP. if you camp you get a kill streak which gets you
a harrier, then more kill streaks and eventually a nuke and game over. This aspect of MW2
incentivizes camping EVEN IN THE OBJECTIVE BASED GAMES LIKE DOMINATION.
In MAG if you camp you lose. Even when youre on defense for Sabotage when some camping is
called for, the game is designed for action and movement and objectives
5. The game is MASSIVE! sabotage is a 64 player battlefield and Domination a whopping 256!!!
It actually is really managable you're broken down into smaller squads and higher ranked players have leadership roles ... The teamwork aspect in a huge battle makes it a ton of fun.
6. VEHICLES!!!! okay so its not like UT3 from what I understand the vehicles are limited but
still VEHICLES!!!!
7. You can actually hear and understand people on the mic ... MW2 sounds like a Walkie Talkie
8. You can change your loadout or weapon class IN game. you have to wait till you die and have to respawn but at least you can switch up based on how you accomplish each objective.
9. You can heal yourself and your teammates as well as vehicles. Sound familiar ... you get points
for doing this which realyl creates a team atmosphere even in the pubs.
10. There are weapon stockpiles where you can get more ammo and health and greandes in game.
(not the greatest reason but I needed a 10 to round it out)
Weaknesses:
1. The respawns can take a while. once you respawn you have to hightail it to your objective. For some reason Im not as bothered by this as I was when I first popped in MW2 and the respawn took forever. Also as you complete objectives the respawn points move forward so its not so bad.
2. No kill cam, sometimes its nice to see how you got killed.
3. Although there were weapons I wasn't able to unlock, since I only leveled up to 13 ... it doesnt look like the weapon variety is as diverse as MW2. In fact, based on which faction you choose
youre limited to the weapons and vehicles for that faction. Think Necris and Axon but you dont switch because youre leveling up in that profile and so youre stuck with your factions vehicles and weapons.
4. Limited Modes. I could be wrong about this because I only played the beta demo but MW2 may
Have more modes.
5. Although I didnt have any problems, I wonder out loud if it will take a while to fill up a 256 slot domination server as the game matures and the player pop drops.
All in all I was surpised how much I loved it considering what a disappontment MW2 was.
On January 26 Im trading in for MAG!

Papa MW2 is the gaming equivalent of watching your parents have sex.

to fluffys post no kill cam is absolute **** if someone is sniping and they kill u its ****ty to see where u got sniped from keep in mind thisgame is set up by the creators of the original socoms so its going to have the came things are the original socoms meaning no kill cam would be cool though if the kill cam was AT THE END OF THE GAME and only at the end of the game like a small recording what ur gameplay or giving u the option of recordin ur gameplay to ur HDD -------------

There should at least be tracer fire, if theres no kill cam.
in maps as huge as the ones in MAG i think it's ridiculous to be able to hide and snipe and give no indication of where the shot is coming from.
I'll admit that a sniper kill cam may be too much, but there should at least be tracer fire like in UT3.
One of the great things about UT3 was that you could have at least some clue of where you were getting **** with any weapon.

lol yeah i was ridiculous with that 1 shot sniper but it does have tracer sniper fire if they miss its just not as noticable as UT3 a sniper gets rewarded with kills a good k/d ratio and they pick off people so the assaulters can take over the objective easier plus the 1 shot sniper is loud so u know in what location its coming from if its close by ...also if you pay attention and NOT bleed out after u get killed by the sniper the camera snaps to the location of where the sniper got u from -------------

I'm only kidding Pa!n! ... I know what you mean about UT3 though ... Ill still play clan matches but the public servers are just plain absurd.
I gave MW2 some serious playing time, (I pre ordered it and got it on the release date!) I will continue to do so. Now that the MAG beta is over Ill play it more until the MAG release if I don't like it still Ill use it as a trade in for MAG.
Pa1N if you like MW2 you will LOVE MAG! I was addicted to the beta Demo like I was addicted to UT3 when it first came out. I never got that feeling with MW2.
Playing MW2 is like wearing a cheap suit.
Playing MAG is like wearing a hand tailored silk Armani.

I hear what youre saying my friend. At the end of the day thats the most important thing ... that youre having fun.
It doesnt matter the game.
Im the last person that will start a 'religious wa'r around which game is better than which ... it's a matter of personal preference.
I do know that several DEEP guys who got MW2 were left a bit disappointed (Ether, Necro and I)
I downloaded the MAG demo with a lot of skepticisim ... I honestly thought I would hate it.
The only reason I downloaded was that I was watching a basketball game and since it was a huge download I figured why not download a free Beta on the last day it was offered while I watched a basketball game on TV
I expected to hate it and BOY was I WRONG!!!
all im saying is a lot of people are crapping on MAG and havn't even played it.
I bought MW2 on the release date, Ive played the MAG beta DEMO, I feel like I can make a relatively objective call rather than some knee jerk emotional "MAG is $hit MW2 is the nirvana" garbage.
any way I started this thread for those of us in DEEP who are looking to play together
but were left short changed by MW2.

yup some of the UT3's best are going to MAG, that says a lot!
Also Pa1n, as a warfare player, youll find MAG very interesting as it has some striking similarities to
Ut3 WF.
In Sabotage, the attacking team has to capture and destroy two nodes before a third is unlocked. Then capture and destroy the third to win. You have to read your map and work as a team.
Sound familiar? think linking 2 nodes before destroying the core ... not entirely the same but you get my drift.

I'm thinking about making this either my next PS3 game or my next one after getting Borderlands. I just now Brawl for the Wii, so I actually have something to play besides LoZ or Wii Sports (which isn't much of a game and not even a real game in some people's eyes) and it's online. Honestly, I wrote off both games as "boring war games" at first, but I after hearing some of the chatter and reading up on it, I think I might change my mind. I'm not much of a fan of realistic war games, but I might be willing to give MAG a try and maybe even MW2. (I might rent it.) Even for me, UT3 is getting boring.. even if I only play it every now and then. (with exceptions being like the last couple days) P.S. If I ever rejoin Deep, it's going to be through another game because I'm not too much of a fan of UT3 clan matches anymore. Part of the reason I left was because I was tired of them and didn't want to be dead weight as I took my leave. Sure enough, after some time, I decided I didn't want to go back to them anytime soon. Some of them took too long to get set up, some never happened, and I sometimes felt like I had to play when I didn't feel like it. Actually, I've grown to like CTF and loathe VCTF, but err.. never mind. I don't know where people get that camping is worse in CTF. I've seen far more camping in VCTF, especially in Suspense, with its annoying ass Avril tower campers and keg snipers. I agree that too many people complain. The only gun I consider cheap is the Flak Cannon. I might mumble about Rockets and Link, but the UT3 Flak is the king of the cheap ass, overpowered weapons. It's strengths far outweigh it's weaknesses. At times, I feel that it should be a Vehicle-mode only weapon, since its weaknesses are apparent there. (most vehicles don't die even nearly as fast yourself getting a flak ball to the face or flak from behind) Edit: Lol at "Deep Dive".. I know.. I know.. I'm aware I'm a KHf**. ------------- |

I was thinking about adding this to what I said in Idiot of the day,
just so this can stay on topic about a game that's not UT3, but oh
well. It fits more to address it here and I'm not making another
thread complaining about to telling people not to complain about
certain weapons, because it's pretty much all been said and done.
Flak's okay in the non-killing modes such as CTF, VCTF, Warfare, and to
an extent, Greed. It's a good replacement for an Avril in some cases,
especially for smaller vehicles and quite frankly, the main point of
those modes is stop the (flag/ orb/ skull) runner at all costs. If a
guy's got 50 - 100 skulls and is about to score, why wouldn't you use
the weapon that you feel will mostly stop him dead in his tracks? In killing modes, the weakness of damaging and possibly killing is usually far offset by its strengths. I'll use flak when others do or use it when I'm desperate/ pissed, but I won't use it most of time because I don't want to win the DM match because I flak sniped people from behind and get Mega Kills simply because lob flak balls into a group of people fighting. I'd prefer to earn it. There's really nothing wrong with others using the flak, but my person preference is usually to not use it. The point of my original post and the one in idiot of the day was to point out that Flak the closest thing to cheap in UT3. No other weapon comes close imo, hence the "King" title. I can think of possible weaknesses to even link spamming a node or large vehicle much easier than I can with the flak in general. La-men's terms or whatever, me hating on the flak is more of a personal preference and pointing out that it's far more unbalanced than the other so-called cheap weapons. Edit: Until Fluffy posted, I almost went back to posting in Idiot of the Day. I'll try to stop talking off-topic now. EDIT: I'm not complaining about weapons. I'm complaining about people who complain about weapons. I'm sorry if my wording sucks, but that's what it was meant to be. Lol.. the funny thing about most of these people is they're f***ing hypocrites, who will defend using/ spamming the Flak Cannon, but denounce the Link or Core spamming, which tends to be a lot less dangerous at times. *sigh* People have their priorities though. Some use hitscan. Some use the biggest most powerful gun. (and usually easy to master) Some use machine guns. Then, there's me. I'm the noob that uses a little bit of everything albeit the flak (except when desperate or pissed), but prefers the Stinger and Sniper. ------------- |

If I get MAG, I'll either be Raven or whoever has the most futuristic/ modern weapons. Sure, there might not be lasers, but I prefer more futuristic weapons and vehicles. After all, I like my more futuristic shooters. Both UT3 and TimeSplitters lean more towards the future. (ignoring the time travel of the latter) January 26th? I doubt I'll get it around then, but I might get it within the next month because Tax time's coming up. Until then I think I'll be brawling on SSB: Brawl. Too bad Roxas isn't in it, despite Days be out and all. ------------- |

And yeah to add my 2cents, flak cannon is gay in UT3, to me its a noob gun. If you still loose after using that gun then you should go shoot yourself. The gun is horrible and so cheap. i got sniped from half way across torlan the other day with a flak and died with 1 hit ... from the distance its f***in impossible the hitboxes on ps3 are so huge it makes the flak overpowered **** like that wont happen on pc and now that every f**got in this game uses the flak when they are losing this game (ut3 dur) is not worth my time so im waitin for MAG tourny to start haha -------------

Exactly Crow, playing UT3 lastnight, going 25 and 0 three times in DM, 25 and 1 two times in DM and 25 and 3 two times in DM I realized there is no one playing the damn game. I'm gonna be playing MAG from here on out. ------------- Currently playing MAG nightly with Wopr, we be owning on SVER n the EF CLAN. UT3 got boring, no competition, nothing else to prove, qM got dat **** on lock. |

So couldn't you sign up with all three factions using different PSN accounts? That way you could always play with friends in other factions. ------------- |

Well, I have more than three alts, so I guess I could do that. I've been playing under my Insane_NewB recently, because I was gearing for getting and playing Brawl, which I started last night. It's pretty fun and still fairly active, so it'll probably be Brawl from here until I get MAG, then switching back and forth between both, with a dash of UT3. Anyhow, if anyone actually has a Wii and Brawl, I'm that noob that always plays as Pit even though I've played the actual game he stared in.
