If you would like to turn off the PSN Ticker that most everyone hates, there is 1 easy step to follow:

1. Change your date and time settings to the future, like changing the year from 2009 to 2010, then restart your ps3 and feast your eyes on a tickerless XMB.

Enjoy!

Awesome!  However, I usually just ignore the damn thing, just as I ignore the background.  At least, you don't have to go through the PS3 logo anymore.  It just goes straight to the game.  However, I kind of don't like that to.  It kind of takes away the nostalgia of Playstation.  I mean, haven't they done the Playstation logo thing since PS1?

Thanks, I'll try it.

It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.

What is this PSN Ticker that I never seem to have encountered (and yes the time/date is correct)? I consider myself lucky I guess, but it'd be nice to know what it is I'm lucky for.

It's the scrolling ad under the time in the upper right hand corner of the XMB screen.

All you have to do is press triangle on the icon, and an option to turn it off should show up.... It worked for me. Confused

I think you're referencing the information bar, not the ticker. The new ticker was in this 3.0 update and although the feature exists to turn it off in the system settings section, it doesn't work and Sony stated that the turn off feature doesn't work. The only way to shut it off is to manually override the date setting since the information being pulled on the ticker is date dependant.
