I saw this in the 360 forum and read about it on CNET. The new slim comes out 9.1.09. It is 36% smaller. That is nice but the materials are super blah to me. When PS3 came out in 2006 I thought it was very good looking. A bit big and heavy but whatev.... It is 3 years later, the LCD and Plasmas that will commonly sit next to or near these consoles are even more common and better looking.....so why is the fit and finish taking a step backwards on this new shell for the PS3? My PS3 doesn't have a single blemish on it. It has never been transported outside of its original packaging, it sits on a folded paper towel, and there is no pet hair in sight. If I spend money on something, I like to keep it looking mint. I am not balling to the point of having nice things everywhere so the the things I do have need to gleam. I don't think this new PS3 knows how to gleam :( No big deal though....I am fine with the looks and the 80GBs my existing unit has. Pros - it's smaller; bigger HD; retro compatible on selected games. Cons - it's 1 fn ugly mofo (was born up the ugly tree, popped out of and ugly vajayjay, slipped off the top ugly branch and hit the ugly ground but not before hitting every fn ugly branch on the way down and while it was on the ground it got covered in ugly p!ss from an ugly dog's ugly d!ck); because it's smaller it'll over heat faster; they say they've saved money making it like this but you know that just means it's less reliable and has sh!ttier components. the real pros and cons to me are whether or not its more stable or less stable. it uses less power and probably has an upgraded heatsink fan design.. so im guessing it will probably be better.. but there is always a chance that it being smaller could end up making it overheat and be worse.

I'm really surprised people don't like the look...I don't dislike the current version but the new one looks pretty sweet to me. Although I'd have to wait to pa** judgment until I actually see it first hand...

i just wish it had the ultra sleek wet jet black finish outside skin like the old one. i do like that about the old one better. but the design, slimness and the fact it has 120 gigs and an in-power source makes it a far superior machine to the old ps3. the looks are about even to me because i thought the old one was in fact to big. this one is perfect, just wish it had the same finish on the outside. you would be dumb to take the old one over this new slim design...

click on my link, the specs are there it has wired ethernet port, it doesnt come with a free ethernet cable, similiar to the way the new 360 elites wont come with HDMI cables in the 299 model

This is sort of what I am saying. Smaller is obviously better. But the finish is so blah. I mean it doesn't look that bad per se but consider that expensive technology ideally looks slightly ahead of its time so it still looks cool down the road a bit. This new PS3 looks AIGHT in 2009. Next year and the year after it will age very rapidly I feel......of course that only matters to those stimulated by the aesthetics of their electronics. BC is coming. Software emulation. They have not fully confirmed it, but they haven't denied it, which in terms of Sony always means "yes". Like it says, it's rumored.

Deadaim, I saw that article, but they haven't announced that PS2 will cease production. The VP in England noted the other day that they are still working on the BC solution, which means they already have it. Until sales of the PS3 pick up, PS2 is still selling, thus they don't want to undermine the PS2 market by BC. That's what the Sony VP stated after that article was posted. ------------- |

have you seen the 360 or read up about it? its uglier than sin and has around a 50% chance of failing and not working shortly down the line. yet it still outsells the ps3. but thank god sony made improvements to their system, or i was going to have to go back to pc gaming 100%. i just dont like investing a good sum of money and it just pooping out on me very quickly. id settle for a little less looks and a better machine anyday over a good looking pile of ****. if you read about the slim, you would know its the best gaming system ever made in overall terms. even better than its mother, the old ps3. -------------

As far as how the 360 looks or sells......not really what I was talking about. The hardware in the new PS3? Seems like an improvement but again, not what I was talking about. You can bring all that into this that is totally fine, but know that is exactly what is happening. I just started a thread asking what everyone's take on the looks are. "Don't care" was your option.....not "Don't care because....". As I mentioned before, this thread is geared toward opinions on the looks. I own the 160GB PS3 that included Drake's Fortune & the free voucher for Pain & I couldn't be happier. The only discrepancy that I care about besides the trivial differences that distinguish each system is the price point - the more people that own the PS3 the better. basically says the new slims are possibly faster then old ps3's. regardless im guessing they are probably alot more stable.. i had a launch system and it crashed probably 100 times in my time owning it
