Im not sure what kind of mouse you should get but you just plug it in and play. nothing to install just set the controller config to how you want it. There are mouse settings that you want to consider as well, like turning off the smoothing. it sucks seriously turn it off.

I used an old crappy wireless mouse when I first started, it was ok and I didn't know any better. I upgraded to a wired MX 518 after about 6 months and it did make a lot of difference... my aiming is still crap but I seem to do alright if not better with it.

As for settings my own preference was to turn everything off, mouse smoothing etc and sensitivity right down low. Then I stuck it on practice for a few games and turned up the sensitivity a few notches at a time until it felt comfortable.

And I also use the mouse/pad combo ... it's the best way in my opinion, but then I only play DM so there's no need for any extra buttons to set up, apart from the mic and impact hammer.

Mouse support is bad on the ps3. However, if you have played with mouse many years on the pc, then you will transition well on the ps3.

mid air combos are easy remy i hit most of mine depending on the ping also if i truely care about the duel which as of recently i havent been carin about the game in general anyways

1:yes you get what you pay for
2: wired over wireless
3: connect a keyboard go to your settings and for your mouse 3 put in tranlocator/use/hoverboard (connecting a KB is the only way to do it)
4: mouse smoothing off mouse sens between 2-5 depending on how you like it i have mine on 3
5: for your controller settings (what i use dont need to follow) L1 jump L2 talk thats pretty much all you will need on the controller

and nova...ur def annoying some people just dont wanna spend hundreds on constantly upgrading their pc's to play a game so those 15 dollars on a game that they already have on console (which unlike most of you i dont feel like rebuyin the same game over and over again for different systems) could be used on a hooker

I suggest learning keyboard.  With a keyboard you have SO MANY MORE OPTIONS!  As far as mouse goes, I use a Microsoft Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer 2.0.  It's wireless but works really well.  Crow, we should play sometime, I'd like to see your combo'ing skill. :)

Lol, I gotta go with what Crow stated as me and him have the same settings in general. I also gotta say to Nova and everyone else. Im sorry but ive been playing alot of PC here lately and the other night I played PC for a bit, then played PS3 immediately after then went back to PC and honestly the mouse support on PS3 aint as hard or f***ed up as everyone thanks. I use a cheap a** LX3 Logitech mouse and dont get me wrong, its WAY EASIER to hit moving combos on PC or to just be WAY more accurate but personally I dont feel where you guys thank its that much of a difference. Its not like driving a Ferrari then jumping in a Geo Metro or some ****, theres a difference but not like everyone puts off. The biggest difference which is way greater then the two mouse supports is the lame a** hitboxes on PS3 and that rediculously huge a** flak cannon shard going down the damn hallway compared to PCs. If PS3 had the same hitboxes and speed Id love it that much more and of course the same mouse support wld b nice.

Currently playing MAG nightly with Wopr, we be owning on SVER n the EF CLAN. UT3 got boring, no competition, nothing else to prove, qM got dat **** on lock.

playing with the ps3 controller is the only reason I can even play ctf/FPS anymore.  I broke my body playing too much Q3 on the PC back in the day and my arms and neck light up fierce if I even try.

i do feel half crippled w/out the keyboard / mouse but I'm more or less happy to play.

Mouse and keyboard is for the truly dedicated killer. The best Unreal players play with KB&M, bottom line. The controller mouse combo is cool and alright from my experience; as Rico pointed out though, you will not have all the control options available like on a keyboard.
I recently made the switch, and have taken it back to UT99 for my training. The reason being is mainly the speed and gameplay. Still trying to hit mid-air shock combos; my headshot percentage has soared though since the switch.

That's because UT99 headshot hitboxes are larger :P

Yeah no one knows who I am... I'm not here for your popularity contest Danjel. It's interesting how you choose to ask, after the crap talking storm you had on the VCTF thread. Get a life.

Thanx for the info Drokun. Didn't know that, that may be why I get them more often then not. I still aim for the head though, just an old habit from the 64 days of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.

EDIT AGAIN: So just tell us a little about yourself and what modes you play etc...

Just seems like you have quite opinionated views but I'm not sure how many people know you or play with you often.

Why talk crap?? Kali has never talked crap to me, nor has Rico. I think it is a confidence thing, or maybe you like getting people irritated. Still I don't understand. It's okay to joke, but dude you attacked me like you had a reason or grudge.

I was joking around to start with. Just wanted to know a little about you, like when you play etc.. but you decided to tell me to get a life lol.

I remember hearing a few things about you, thats all. Just wanted to see what you were about. Obviously just another flamer.

Yeah flaming on the ground dead from all the rocket spam... I have not been on lately because of my situation with my room-mates. I should be on again soon. Would like to duel although you live in the U.K., right?
I play all modes, and am trying to make sure I am in the next VCTF all-star match. If there ever is a Warfare All-star match, you will definitely see me there. I do not know if that will ever occur though...
Look, just forget about the smack talking. I just have a short fuse sometimes... I'm here to support the UT3 PS3 community and UT community at large. And play with the best and against the best.

LOL duel me if you want. Its an easy win... for you. Yeah I'm from the U.K.

Well I'm sure I'll see you in the servers soon enough when your back around...

anyway back on topic, about using mouse i got another question, optical or laser?
n @ rico what kind of control benefits do u get using keyboard over controller? also with controller i use weapon picker i been wonderin how thats gonna work with mouse? just the same?

Posted By: i2ic0chet
Date Posted: 11 Oct 2009 at 10:08am
well with the keyboard you can bind weapons to keys.  For example I move with WASD, and I bind all the keys surrounding wasd with weapons and other stuff.  makes it easier on my life.  I rarely use the mouse wheel to switch through weapons.

so u can make it so u dont need the picker? a key for each weapon? i thought u could only do that on pc, what about laser or optical? ive seen different opinions on other sites but id value info from people i know more than a stranger, specially when it comes to spendin cash lol

Posted By: NewBe4hire

I use a laser. Optical tend to have a problem with certain surfaces. Unless you have a desk to post up your set-up, with a mouse pad. I would recommend laser it is more accurate from my experience. You don't have to take my word though, since you don't know me...

I use a Microsoft Arc Laser wireless mouse ($50). I have a wireless Microsoft 9000 keyboard ($150) also. I get great battery life on both of these.
