Sup y'all

I've been looking into renting a VCTF server containing custom maps and I have some questions. Would appreciate help from anyone with knowledge in these things...


- Artofwar.com seems pretty good as host, has anyone had experience with them? Cheaper than Clanwarz I think.

- How easy is it to add custom maps? When one adds custom maps for a PS3 server, you still upload the PC version of the map?

- Is it possible to mix maps of different game types?

- Does anyone have AnarchyHalls-CODA cooked for PS3? Google was not my friend in this instance.

- How does one cook maps for PS3 ? Please explain as you would to a 5-yr old retarded kid.

- How does one put several maps together into a single USERDATA.JAM so players can download it and install several maps at once?

- Do I need to add Ventrilo for mic communication to work? How many channels are recommended?

- Any other tips or pointers? As you can see I'm a total noob.

hi , i no know put custom maps in server for me no is easy, maybe because i no speak english and more hard understand people says,

i know in vctf more hard than ctf or duel put custom maps, in clanwarz.com you have pack of custom maps for install (duel) and instructions in forum :

I only know put the maps titan pack because is in the server xDD, i only buy servers clanwarz because is only i know config

Thanks for your input trixente. Did you try to install any other custom maps by following the instructions in the link you sent me?



I signed up for a month with artofwarcentral.com to give it a try and just simply getting the server online is more complex than I had thought. Also their customer support claims it is impossible to use custom maps on server for PS3 (which is of course untrue). But did some research and found forum threads (such as this one: http://www.iamgaming.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=6882&title=vctf-customs-maps ) saying barely any custom vctf maps work for PS3 servers. Very discouraging.

So I'm stuck. If anyone can offer any help or advice pls do. Bain?

Anyway I'll just try to get this server online as I already paid for a month. I read somewhere that nerd3 uses artofwarcentral.com to host his server. Does he post here, or does anyone know how to contact him? Would like to ask him some questions.

Trixente,

Is it possible for me to get a copy of your Game.ini for your VCTF server? The default config my server provider gave me is for DM, so it would save me a lot of time by just using yours and simply changing the server name.

Yep, its better then Clanwarz. Only the admins of Clanwarz are good and will help you out more efficient and quicker.

Lol, its not hard. Just make a folder called \custom maps or whatever in your UTGame\CookedPC folder (where all the map files reside) and put your custom maps in there.

- Is it possible to mix maps of different game types?
I dont understand this question. You want to put WAR-Flux in CTF for example?

You can recook it by yourself if you have the PC file and a working version of UT3 PC.
Just run the unrealfrontend application IF you have a full version of UT3 PC going.

Unrealfrontend.exe. Just select multiple maps

Clanwarz have Ventrilo build in, so no need for an extra package.
Im not sure about other webadmins.

Jep your a noob haha :) Just ask if you want to know something.
Here are some tips:
 
- Never make subusers on your server. Clanwarz has a small bug in which users get mixed up in their Active Directory (system) which eventually makes it impossible to login for the Admin account because the system does not reckonize the difference between a subuser or the admin. Really, really annoying.
- Dont copy/cut/paste or do anything in the \Binaries folder. This is where all the system folders are. Dont change anything. If you do, you have a 99% chance to FK up your whole Server.
- Make standard command lines like: DM-TDM-CTF-VCTF-WAR. If you want to edit or add a mutator, just use an existing command line instead of making an alternative one of the same mode. This works alot cleaner and will give you more overview of your server command lines.
- If you want spectating on your server on what mode so ever, install the GOWspectator.c mod in your \CookedPC folder.
- Try and work as clean and logic as possible on your server. Dont make random folders everywhere, but try and put new maps in a folder called \Custom Maps and new Mutators in \Custom Mutators, new skins in \Custom Skins and what so ever. Be a smart admin :)

Btw, tip: If you have a UT3 PS3 server, dont extend it.
Its just not worth it. No competition in UT3 PS3 anymore.
Only real mode active is VCTF but only noobs play that mode.
 
Only a select few come online to play pugs..
But most of us play MW3, ME3 or other games now these days.

custom maps are cool. but what happens is players will vote for them even though they don't have them downloaded. then half of the server get's kicked. then the other half leaves to follow them to a pub server. then your server is stuck on the custom map with no one playing until you reset it.

Hey uber Clanwarz are better, AoWC dont know what theyre doing. On the upside you doing all the thinking means youll learn lots about servers. AoWC take ages to respond to your tickets, servers go down and take too long to get back up and it doesnt have a console so you change everything by code - fun tho lol.
Clanwarz offer a better service but theyre complete d1ckz with their attitude. Better off buying a NAS drive or use an old PC and running your server from it.
As for custom maps for vCTF - most of them fail incl megastructure, hanging gardens. I think I only got 2 war maps and 1 vctf map to work.  Foot mode maps for DM and CTF have more success on servers. A sfor mixing modes ys you can switch from ctf to say vctf or wf. I seem top remember the legend server did this but you need to ask Jibba (I think?) or Legend about how they did it. You can also play 3-way tdm (3 teams on 1 map) and have everyone play using only 1 weapon eg shock. Good luck!

Midnight Gaming: Most expensive, difficult to get set-up, poor customer service but I liked that you can change the maximum number of players in the command line.
 
Clanwarz: Cheaper than MG, easy set-up and good customer service. But you can't change the max number of players. if you rent 16 slots then you're stuck with that for the max unless you change it in the .ini file.
 
One more thing. The GOW Spectator mod will kick everyone out after every game. Don't know why but it does.

Well, it looks like my dreams of seeing VCTF-AnarchyHalls and Megastructure in the server list are crushed.

AOWC aren't really being super helpful with their support. Still haven't gotten the server up and running. Will most likely go with Clanwarz if there's a next time.

If anyone is interested in a 3-way TDM server for a month just guide me on how and what to do and I'll put it online for you. Or if there are any other requests for what to do with the server just hollarrrr

Da,n you people saying the game is dead. Then why come to the ut3 section? Pretty stupid if the game is as dead as you guys try to make it seem. when you got a dude trying to do something for the rest of what the game holds. Clowns.

i had my Clanwarz server up and running within 20 minutes of placing the order. had all the command lines and non-default maps online within an hour. give them a try.

Yea its pretty easy. You need a gamespy account first tho.
That will eventually be your servername.

If you dont exactly know how that works you should ask a Clanwarz Admin. 
They have indeed pretty good customer service and can help you out with that in no time.

i left my server name as clanwarz so i wouldn't get a lot of requests for clan match usage. didn't last long though, lol.

Btw, no to shiver your dreams, but, im doubting you could play VCTF-AnarchyHalls in a pub on PS3. Half of all the non iamgaming newbs out of there dont even have customs. Its a well played map on PC tho, because it has a map download on server click function, but PS3, hmm nope.

I MADE THIS THREAD ALMOST 4 MONTHS AGO.

I made AnarchyHalls available on the server barely 1 month ago.

As of today, 107 ppl have downloaded it.

Shouts to everyone that said it couldn't be done :)

But more to those that were encouraging.

MORE MAPS COMING SOON.
