The sound as far as i know is the best you can get, 7.1 Dolby surround sound
The fact their wireless, the customization, and the bluetooth integration sets it apart imo Downside, not rechargeable, and the bluetooth reallllly burns out the battery so that kinda sucks

I just bought my first set of gaming headphones on Tuesday, the Sony PS3 Wireless Headphones for $99.00.
I didn't want to spend too much just in case I didn't like using them. I've only used them in a few games but there definitely is a difference, especially in MAG. So here are the pros and cons. Pros: price, rechargeable battery (USB from PS3 or computer), easy to set up (just insert the USB dongle into your PS3 and turn them on), easy to use controls, comfortable ear pads, 7 - 10 hour battery life, crystal clear mic (so i've been told), compatible with PCs. Cons: plastic retractable mic is going to get broken one day, simulated Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound (had to turn that off in MAG for better directional detection), USB dongle uses one of your PS3 ports, no way to tweak the sound at all (just overall volume and chat volume), look bulky.

I was wondering why you listed price as a pro, then I saw the price of those PX5's o.0
More expensive than all the headphones I've broken combined |

Same here. Turn the voilume up on the TV and get crackin'. I can't imagine spending $100+ for a gaming headset. Just not worth the money or the fact of looking like a fighter pilot while playing games.

I've never had headphones. To me it's a waste of $. I would rather get another game than headphones. Besides, I can hear $hit through my t.v. just fine.

I had to go to headphones so when my mother is over, she doesn't hear what some random 9 year old in a gaming lobby plans to do to her or describe what he thinks he did with her.
I'm on my 4th step up in headphones and the PX5 is the way to go for sure. I think it is interfering with my network though (both 2.4MHz). Gonna manually change the channel on my router to see if that's a fix.

^^ 1 of the reasons why I don't use wireless, I'm pretty sure the only way to fix it is by having a Router that sends a 5.8ghz signal instead of 2.4ghz |

like i said before, they make a difference. not a game changing difference. i still suck, lol. but you can really tell where gunfire is coming from, not just a general direction. and the minute ambient sounds that you never heard before add to the experience. but i'm not a dueler so i can't say if they improve your gameplay in duels or not.

you dont want your router to send at 5.8ghz, but astro head phones are 5.8ghz for that reason. if you are having problems its probably becaue the router and the headset reciever are too close to eachother.

I don't use the wireless Astro Mixamp, I use the Wired Version. Aquaknot most likely has his Router beside his setup & uses a Ethernet cable for his PS3 so there's really not much he can do inless he switches of the Wireless from it or use a 5.8ghz Router to stop interfering with his PX5's & other wireless devices |

Yeah, I have a dual 2.4MHz/5.8MHz router, but the PS3 won't connect to the 5.8MHz and the headset is not adjustable. I'm out slobbing on the boat for a few days. When I get back I'm going to try manually setting the channels for the 2.4MHz channel of the router until I find one were everyone gets along. I'm pretty certain that the headset uses a static wifi channel, just need to determine which one. I went out and bought the hardwire cable and outlets. Just waiting for it to get below 160F in the attic so I can make the run from my network interface.
