This is funny to me. In the mid 90's when violence video games like Morkal Kombat, Killer Instinct, Doom, etc, were out, I didn't hear news whatever about children need to stop playing gory games. Hell even in arcade days, I seen people a little bit older than me kept playing those games. No parents weren't around. Those people were enjoying themselves killing fictional characters.

I believe violent video games became an issue for the government back in 2004 or 2005 when Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas came out. I remember my mother was watching the news about a guy killed 3 police officers in the head because of influence from GTA: San Andreas. He killed 2 white cops & 1 black cop. It's sad to think a single violent video game will make you to do this kind of thing. Well obviously, he was dumb enough to do it so he paid the price.

Edit: I looked everywhere on the Internet to find that video, but im not sure if it was posted.

Religion has convinced people to kill in the name of, and yet that isn't banned, and we know that it was religion influenced.  Video games only been around for about 40 years, what aboot the other 220,000 years before that?  Alcohol has killed more people last year, then killing by video game influence ever will.  Just media and peoples preference.    When the BP oil spill occurred, there were 10 times more views to a stupid internet video than any BP coverage video.  It's not what's important, it's what generates controversy.

idk who John Stewart is bt it seems hes just trying to score cheap points while entertainimg his audience. Nothing is factual its all opinion but its right that we should be concerned about the effects of video games. Its consistent with the effects of graphical images on the susceptible and vunerable in society, the use of language in books, film etc - that's why we have censorship. Game designers are cute and I'm thinking u can restrict the gore level.
Yes people kill in the name of religion but its not correct to say God tells you to go out and kill in his name. People are willing to kill and die for a cause or what they consider a justified action and religion falls under this category.
I agree this is just sensationalism, courting controversy. If he wanted to make a serious point there is much better material out there.

Video games do not tell you to kill people either. And it's great that they are willing to kill and die for a cause... no wait, it's actually horrifying.

Also, I think Jon Stewart is just messing about.  I pretty sure he doesn't care about violent video games and who plays them.

agreed 100% Thumbs Up but that humanity for u. We've been killing each other since the dawn of mankind, its part of our nature we have the capacity for violence and killing and I doubt that we will ever eradicate it. This aint another religion thread and im not trying to make it one, just pointing out 1-2 things. Video games dont tell u to do anything but they are very powerful forms of media - immersive and impressionable stimulants. Today's games use real scenarios and try very hard to be realistic which can be very persuasive in altering the behaviour of some people. What they should be talking about is the perhaps altered state - attitude of gamers. I don't think anyone could argue successfully that e.g. playing COD increases the death rate in a country but the rights of citizens to legally purchase of fire arms or armed police forces is perhaps more of a legitimate argument. Hence its not about religion or video games just mankind's capacity for violence. Its a non-starter as we can explore feelings of violence and aggression when playing games without actually killing others and understand the concept of violence in a better way imo.

yea me too. The animation is quite comical imo just like in Tom and Jerry (yea i do remember them lol) when the mouse slams an iron in the cats face or sets fire to his tail. I dont remember lots of kids suddenly having the idea that itd b cool to do then seeing lots of media coverage about it. it looks like a filler for a topical - light hearted entertainments show not a piece that became a central theme in the show.

Those games were saintly compared to parents seeing their kids play GTA when it first came out.. that was when the parents vs video games started up big. Apparently they see no moral values gained by screwing a prostitute and then killing them to get your money back, lol.
