So I'm just curious, do any of you consider internet friends as meaningful as real life ones?

i have, and I'm about to meet my best friend in August! I'm so excited! i met her through PSN almost a year ago! throughout the last three years of my gaming career i've made a lot of friends over the internet, some have came and gone, and some have stayed in my life til this day...i keep in touch with my old clan mates through other websites or even by phone! i've been told by many people that internet friends are "unrealistic","irrelevant", and "unhealthy"..personally, i consider internet friends just as important as my real life ones (and yes i actually have alot of RL friends haha).Times have changed i say, the way we communicate or in this case meet people is different, from lets say 20 years ago. So i'd say meeting someone online now is just about the same as meeting someone in real life now. anyways, I'd like to hear other peoples' opinions...

yes ´pretty Leah, i consider them like a friends, i mean bros. in specially my clan mates, da AK47 bros (Tripox, Zero, MAfia, Chico, Smile, wicked, xetza, carlos, Etc...). i talk to them like my real friends, we chat about our personal lifes and more, is fun and nice. i love chat and kidding with them, out of Ak47 i consider other bro that was with me on DSX and KAT Clan, he was DeathXLord, an old UT3 player, but he lef da game since 2 years for move in other state from NYC, anyway i always chat to him via FaceBook and MSN. Other guys that i consider my bro is T-R-M_Villn hi is a cool guy, always fun with him, and i don't forget to Dragov too.

and fosho, i'm learning a bit of French thanks to Vill and a French Girl (80Steph) that i met in LP 8-bit Rebellion, she is a pretty nice woman whose teaching me french too. but i rarelly chat with them now, school always get my time. anyway, i just wanna say to them: THANKS A LOT! <3 u guys!

I've met Two_Fase in person while on a trip to Arizona.  We had lunch and chatted it up for a while.  I was shocked to find him to be a normal person.  No extra eyes or limbs... lol - just a regular guy.

I met xplorer2233 in Florida.  We went boating at night, hung out and talked.  Also a normal human being.

I'm sure there are plenty of creeps out there.  You have to pick and choose who you're willing to meet up with though.

Right now I'm trying to get xplorer, BaggaJr and J_Rivers to come over for a weekend out on the boat.  Should be a blast.  They're all within a few hours of my place.

There are a few people that I've met on the PS3 that I communicate with outside of the PS3 and have gotten to know really well. So yes, they are as meaningful as real life friends. Just hope to meet them someday.

I think you have to choose very carefully who you would call your friends. Some people just want to use you for personal gain. I would consider maybe two or three people I have met true friends or people I have/would meet for real.

on FB i have like 40 friends who i talk to . but if u check other persons that have 5000+ friends just for those stupid games like farmville or mafia wars , don't tell me they talk to all of them . on my ps3 i have 49 "friends" , 4 that i know in real life , 25 that i play UT3 with (and always having fun) and the rest r just from chatrooms that i barely know so after a couple of days i just delete them . there is one person on UT3 that i know for a year and a half now and i consider him as my bro , the rest r just good friends to have fun with !

Well, I met Jibba and he is pretty normal like anyone else. This sunday Bowler and I are going to cedarpoint. Internet friends are just as "real" life ones they are people too. You just gotta watch for the weird ones. Good luck tho!!!!

i totally agree. i've unfortunatley had "friends" in the past that have used me. i learned my lesson though. you can't afford to put too much of yourself out there (like i did) because people tend to use what you tell them, or give them, against you.

I appreciate online friends, I'll go outa my way and spend time doing things with or for my internet friends.  Hell, as much as I bash Myspace, it gave me my new best friend and then a network of his friends became my new friends!  It would sure be cool to meet some people from UT3, although I already have a face made up in my head that goes with everyone's name, so that would be weird.  Id be like, you dont look like (insert name).

That's funny Lunchy.  I thought xplorer would look like a goofy bucktooth redneck.  His teeth were perfectly straight.

It is so strange to see people you play with. You do have an image of them and it rarely is what they really look like. I have been really surprised when I have seen some of the people I play with. Faces don't always fit the voice.

My cousin actually married someone from an online website and I know tons of my friends who use online networking to hang out. It's something I think society still has a tough time understanding especially if you tell your friends you're not going out to the bar tonight because you have a UT3 game to play with your online friends but me personally I would love to meet a lot of people on here, a lot of people have the same interests, why wouldn't they be called real friends?

good topic IPWN, I've always wanted to know what everyone thought.

there's lotsa ppl on here i think would make good friends in real life but there's a difference imo. Maybe if u meet them in real life as well as online u get the best o both, who knows. but 4 me there's a set of values which means that only real friends could qualify.
i get it tho cos sometimes in life u trust a friend and they let u down.

i certainly think "online friends" are just as meaningful as "real life friends"... the way i see it is the same as ipwn, so what if you meet someone through the ps3 etc, your still meeting REAL people just in another method of communication thereefore i dont catagorize my friends.. in fact a few people ive met here have become truely great friends of mine that mean alot to me....

My parents hate that i want to go see my friends from online ,cause i mean if your a parent. How would you like your daughter/son going to see someone from online? And i know where there coming from.

But people like Jibb,Headshot, bowler,Sephiroth,or **** Wild aka NM_cracka lol. These dudes are cool as ****. I'v talked to these dudes every since i got a mic. Wild was the first cause of legend clan. But all those people are people i'v texted/talked on phone with or told everything to and they did the same. I know more facts about Jibb, hjeadshot, bowler, and truly Wild than what meets the eye. Pretty crazy how a gaming console brings people so close.

I am untrusting of people who you can't look in the eye when you talk to them. People online are more likely to blackmail you, lie and stab you in the back. Just an opinion. There are a few exceptions to the rule.
