need some info on buying a dedicated server

Im plannin on ordering a sever from clanwarz.com and wanted some info b4 i do.  I also thought about gettin one from midnightgaming.net but it seems they only have eastern servers and want a central for mine.  Just curious if someone could fill me in on how they work and how you set them up b4 i get started.  Also can you set them up via ps3 online as well.

JFF have whole lot of Clanwarz servers so their server manager (I think it's Katarna) is your guy for info on Clanwarz.

Midnight do seem to only have Eastcoast servers for UT3 for PS3 but you can contact their sales group directly by email to buy and set up your server (not sure how you'd pay and whether it's secure through your PS3) and they're very helpful or so I've found.  With Midnight they can do enough of the set up for you to have a server running on a default mode (I think that's DM) and then as Drokun said, the guide he's linked to will tell you everything else you need to know

I've recently upgraded HFB from a 30tick to an 80tick server so can confirm that's it is a lot smoother but is still subject to lag etc

ive had servers with Art of War central, Clanwarz and Midnight gaming. In terms of control panel, help desk and general service MG is tops, my 80 tick server ran well for US guys. However the best/smoothest server was Clanwarz cos I got a UK based one. They don't give better tick rate so its cheaper for u plus at 35-70 ping it was great for those who were hampered by server location (US instead of EU). TBH they're a bit sh1tty - up their own rses at Clanwarz - they took my server down without notice, and informed me i was not allowed to put custom maps on there so u need to check this just in case. I couldnt understand some of the things they were doing and got p1ssed with them so now im banned cos i dared to question their actions. Good servers, and cheap too tho and titan pack and 1st update 3 maps are there too. You will hae to change the commandlines on your game.ini file on server to reference the maps to play additional map packs but they are there.

JFF servers are from Clanwarz. Easy to use and not that expensive . You can order them online and they just take payment from my bank once a month.

I was curious if you can use the ps3 internet to setup your server or even just like make setting changes such as game mode.  I think if i am going to but one myself i will have to go with clanwarz cause as far as tick goes, it doesnt seem to matter to me if the tick is good if my ping stays over 100 to 140 all the time.  I feel that my ping is most important if its going to be the one i will be playing on the most. Banana server was good for me most the time but oOPS server seems laggy and high ping all the time...dont know why that is but....

Yeah i like 0 ping and host advantage but its not fair to other people playing on your host cause they will have lag issues for sure if they are of any distance to you, also not fair to your self to play on own host cause then you feel like your better than you are cause your snipe/ shock/ basically all the skills shots you make are due to host and not a true judgement of your own skill.  we use to use my host on 360 all the time and it was really good for every1 cause i had beastly internet at that time so even uk guys wanted me to host but i got too use to it and when we'd play on some1 else's my skill level would drop a ton.  thats saying i have much in the first place lol..

I use artofwarcentral for Nerd's West Coast.  The don't have a good admin console, but they do have one that lets you stop and start the server.  You do you admin by stopping the server, updating the .ini files via FTP, supplying a command line, and starting it.  I haven't had any problems with this.  The biggest problem is that the server won't automatically restart if it crashes, you need to open a support ticket to get them to do that.  It takes them a few minutes to do it during the day, but after about 11pm or midnight, it takes until the next morning.
Other than some issues when I first got the server, I'm generally happy with artofwarcentral.  They charge $2 a slot and have West Coast PS3 servers.

Yeah thats what i was asking ckc_pamkitten.  just would preffer to use my ps3 to change modes and what not if possible cause the pc i have is mainly for my girl friends schooling.  And yeah syzygy i dont know why either but its not a bad host that midnightgaming servers provide just not close enough for me to be ok with the price.  It runs smooth but there are times i get a lower ping but it runs like its 200.  Seems like a clanwarz in chicago would be the best running for me to play on.
