has anyone seen this movie yet? the critics claim that this movie is horrible and i went and saw it and actually liked it. what were the critic's thinking? yeah, the start of the movie is pretty lame but it gets better. i had a hard time sleeping later that night. i kept expecting to wake up at 3 a.m. with an owl staring down at me haha. the sheriff and Abigail's son's character are pretty annoying too. 

i guess you would have to be interested in extra terrestrials to like this movie. i'm sure the people who hated this movie were narrow minded.

Oh man this movie sucked BIG time.  The thing that pissed me off most about it is they try to pa** it off as if this is actually real.  I just read an article TODAY that Universal has to pay money to the Alaskan newspapers they CLAIMED some of this crap came from.  Don't get me wrong, I love a really good sci-fi film but this movie was not in the least bit scary, the story was crap,  and they insult the intelligence of the movie-going public by trying to pa** it off as real.

this sounds like a direct quote from some online critic at rottentomatoes.com. the movie wasn't that bad. you are exaggerating. the fast and the furious is bad, the chronicles of narnia is bad, legally blonde is bad, the ring is bad.. the fourth kind was more original than most movies that came out this year. you have to be into this kind of stuff to find it interesting. if you go into the movie with an open mind than you will enjoy it. i mean the movie wasn't even suppose to be scary, it was suppose to be disturbing.

Don't you think though they were trying just a little too hard to convince you it was real?   Starting with the monologue the actors give at the beginning and then through-out the movie with the splitscreen it was like a sledge-hammer hitting you over the head this is real, this is real, this is real....it only kept reminding me that it WASN'T real...they should have been more subtle imo.
 
If you want to see a really good sci-fi there's a movie called Sunshine came out a couple of years ago.  It has that guy, can't remember his name, who came out in 28 Days Later and the second to last batman movie.

yeah, i hated the first ten/fifteen minutes of the movie, but i enjoyed the rest. i own sunshine, it's a pretty good movie. there is a really really good sci-fi movie that came out recently called Moon. I recommend that movie. you can read about it at imdb.com.

Ah thanks for the reminder I've been meaning to watch this (Moon)...I think I heard David Bowie's son made it....can't wait to see it!!

Yo Tuna, you make the point that this film will only appeal to UFO/extraterrestrial enthusiasts (like me. Check my profile, you'll see) & unfortunately, you're probably correct.

However, I definitely do not agree with anyone that claims this to be a bad movie or a movie that failed to live up to the 'scare' factor. This film is not meant to frighten you. Is it disturbing? Maybe. But I believe the film was created to educate you on the subject matter at hand.

Actually, while I love such films as War of the Worlds, The Fourth Kind is a completely different monster & probably the most significant extraterrestial docu-film ever made. The evidence is there & as Dr. Abigail says, "The sounds & videos don't lie." Also, while the belief that it's real is slightly imposed on you, Mila Jovivich & the cast clearly tell you to make up your own damn mind.

In closing, I found The Fourth Kind utterly fascinating. It produced a newfound respect within my personal studies of UFOs/extraterrestrials.

well said. i am into UFO/extraterrestrials and i also thought this movie was really good. i didn't really like mila jovivich's speech at the very beginning mainly because they edited it weird and it sounded rushed but it was necessary. i found this movie to be really creepy and disturbing.
when abigail listened to the tape of her screaming and being taken from her room was f***ing scary. i don't care what anyone says. imagine listening to a tape of you screaming as loud as you can and being dragged out of your room and not remembering it at all?
