    Posted: 13 Oct 2009 at 3:29am
Greetings,
I was hoping that we could start a thread where we help each other out with our broken ps3's. Does anyone have any broken ps3's lying around? Right now, I am looking to pick up a full set of ribbon cables from the inside. I may also need a blue ray player for the same one.
Let me know, . . .
Thanks,
Balls

I think mine is about to go. If it does I don't plan on getting a new one either.

Shame I am across the Atlantic! Probably cost about £100 to send.

You won't get a new one? Why?

My peice of **** 80 gb b/c broke down Sunday.  I"m hoping to reflow it and sell it for 200.  I heard if u put pop cans under ur ps3, about 4 for each corner, it won't overheat as bad.  I"ll try that next time.  Tekken 6 is around the corner, such a shame.

I re-flowed mine and fixed it, but the repair only lasted a few weeks and it was back to square one.

Unless you have the proper kit to do the repair correctly it's basically hit, miss, or in my case lucky for while...

It's most definitely a cooling issue. When I took my PS3 apart the thermal compound was in the worst condition I have ever seen on a heat sink, ever. It was actually laughable at how bad it was!

Where can you get these repair systems from?

It wasn't hard at all. It was mostly time consuming. Re-flowing the MB works and will continue to work if you keep the machine cool.

The disc loader on my 40GB PS3 went, so it doesn't read disks anymore, but I keep it for internet/downloading music/movies, etc, so I can keep my 80GB for gaming and bluray.

I've got like 20GB worth of music on it alone, not to mention 5 or 6 movies, pictures, etc... so I'm keeping my "broken" PS3.

Do you have a compressor in the garage? Unplug your ps3 and take it out to the garage. Blow compressed air throgh the vents to get the dust out of there. Don't put the air chuck right up to the vent. The high pressure could dislodge a ribbon cable.
Vacuum up with a shop-vac whatever is left.
If you are feeling really saucy, take the cover off of the ps3 and vacuum her out.
If you set your ps3 down, put it up on its side. Hot air rises and the largest vent is on the right side of the machine.
Lastly, buy an external cooling fan for her. Heat is this things worst enemy.
Cheers!

I remember the first time I ever messaged balls...

It was on the epic forums and he had finished writing a review of new maps I think... The thing that got me was that he rated each map with with 1,2,3 or 4 Balls (I think one map got 2 sweaty balls). Love it.

Well here's an update on my ps3.  I asked a specialist to get a new motherboard for my ps3.  He said the cheaper motherboard fix will make it all good but will take out the b/c.  I'm getting that since i have a ps2 still, and it'll cost me around 40 more bucks on top of the 50 i paid already, so not bad.

Yeah, Epic banned me and it's too much of a pain in the a** to IP mask to get on their site. They were pr1cks. Does anyone go there anymore? I wonder if any of my posts are still there.

if your ps3 starts taking longer to load up, makes a bit more noise(fan noise) than it used to or seems that it gets hotter and faster than it used to, its probably about yellow light. those were my symptoms...
