got a server up for tdm.....ended up with clanwarz,i am a computer noob.jay at clanwarz saw i was having trouble and phoned me in canada,babysat me through setup procces.truly impressive service.

Can anyone who has a server there ask clanwarz if they could get map redirect working? I'd probably get a server at clanwarz for that.
I just found this page http://files.clanwarz.com/redirect/ut3/ from PC version, so if they know how that works they might know for Ps3? I think Midnightgaming also had a tutorial for redirecting (http://midnightgaming.net/ut3faq.php under the header 'Setup redirect') though I don't know if anyone ever tried that. |

Does the PS3 allow downloading maps straight from a server, because that's all the redirect would be good for... And if the PS3 does allow that, why has no one bothered setting that up. It would be much easier than having everyone download the map to a flash drive and then import it.

Only the PC version of UT3 supports auto download of custom maps. The PS3 version never has, never wil. The official reason for this from Epic was that map sizes are just too large.
Custom mutators are small files so they allowed the PS3 version to auto download custom mutators from player hosts. However, it does not seem to auto download custom mutators from dedicated servers, I have recently learned. Like WOPR wrote in his GOW Spec tutorial, the server will start on the map but upon next map load the server will kick everyone and you can't rejoin ("Package not installed" even if u have it). This is why servers need to be restarted with the GOW Spec mutator and other custom mutators. I have a theory that may work to get certain custom mutators working. It is to set the mutator package flags to ServerSideOnly=True, AllowDownload=False. Maybe this would stop the server checking if the client has the mutator installed and would not kick people that don't have it. This would only work for serverside mutators of course, I think GOW Spec may be included. I know the command to do this but I need someone with UT3 PC to help me out. Dark? |
