Can you have ghosts without God? You can have aliens without God. Id believe a alien abduction before believing a story about God. I mean we are proof of life, so aliens are not really a stretch.

God, a cosmic jewish zombie vampire, who was his own father who will make you live for ever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him hes your master. If you believe in this rubbish, I don't know what to do for ya. Especially omnimax God.

i'm unsure what to believe. i've heard about multiple "so called" experiences, and others i think i've experienced. i've been to two universities that have been deemed haunted. Seton Hill University and Lock Haven University. each has their own specific stories to tell.
Seton Hill there is a lot more they are not telling, since it was a sanctuary, the catacombs are blocked off, which conveniently is under the admin/monastery. Lock Haven Russell Hall, a girl hung herself from the bell tower, it is a ghost named Mary. (this is ACTUALLY chained off, preventing students from getting in there. trust me i've checked) Sloan Hall, The university arts building, is haunted by three ghosts: one a woman d****d in white, very calming (seen mostly in the main stage theatre area), the second a feeling of a curious child (but nothing seen generally in the studio theatre on the third floor) and lastly a black, fast moving blur of a spirit, very menacing. but my personal experiences are different than that. in my area there is a legend of a woman in white. she only appears between the hours of 12 - 3AM. my home was a coal mining town. land was torn up and stripped for coal and it's actually a quite desolate place to be. but story has it that she was celebrating her wedding, got too drunk and wandered off into the woods. she didn't return that night so the next morning a search party was organized, my grandfather included. they said they searched for about 3 days in the forest, hoping she didn't venture out into the stripped areas. they decided on the 4th day to look there (the reason they didn't WANT to was the risk) the began their search and found a new sinkhole had formed. a sinkhole or airhole which we call it, is a patch of land that seems normal, but the undermining creates a gap between the earth, and the top soil. basically this: top soil ------------------ [ ] air hole [ ] [ ] earth --------------------- the gap will give way when sufficient weight on top causes a collapse. hence they nobody wanted to venture out there. you can't see the anything until it's too late. but they saw the new sinkhole and checked by grappling down to the bottom. the grandfather's brother George found her body, frozen in place looking up at the sky. arm broken in 3 places and both legs pinned under the rocks. the legend has it that when you drive through that area during those times you'll see a woman standing by the side of the road, staring blankly at the night sky. most people have a tendency to stop and turn around to see if they can help her. unfortunately that's the problem. i was told that whenever you see this woman you are NOT to stop. if you were to stop, she vanishes, and you go about your merry way. however, they say that after about a minute of driving, you see something in your rear view mirror. apparently when you stopped, you invited her in your car. they say that you see a frozen, soot covered face, weeping for her husband...many would automatically turn around and see if she was actually there, nearly causing a crash because there is a blind turn just up ahead on that road. i've driven down that stretch of road many times late at night, and you do get a sense of awe driving down it. you feel so depressed and saddened. so if you're ever in my area, beware of state road 2026. |

I think peoples imagine and legends like that coupled with night time (why is it always at night?) can make you see things. Again, why is it always @ night? Cuz its creepy and when you get freaked out the easiest.

i agree. you imagine the worst case scenario. i did a paper on phobias and your mind actually interprets something terrifying. think about it. you're walking down a street, late at night in a thick fog. you see a silhouette of someone running at you and automatically you think it's someone going to harm you, when its only someone jogging at night. you perceive the worst when it's nothing. it's only what your mind tells you.

I 2 do not believe in GOD or the Devil
only in things that i have seen with my own eyes and i have the scars 2 prove that there are other things in this world than just humans and animals. i want 2 thank all the people 4 the comments on this subject. i like 2 read what others think and makes me wonder about parallel universes, aliens and other things as well. |

The only scary stuff I've experienced over the last 100 years has been real. Stared down the barrel of a loaded weapon, head on accident, no brakes at 70mph, fell down the stairs in the dark and ran out of rum once. All measurable and tangible. No ghosts, except the one in UT3 that keeps haunting me..

I'm taking that it's more than likely not the voices in Hostile or that guy in the water in Stranded?
As for ghosts, I believe there is a chance they exist, but I doubt it. Then again, I've never actually seen or "seen" one. I've felt like I was being watched by a spirit a few times, but nothing was there, so it was more than likely my mind playing tricks on me. Nevertheless, until I see one, I'm just going to say that there's a chance. After all, there has been various things that were thought not to exist, but eventually were proven to exist or still exist, such as animals that were thought to be extinct. |

God, demons, and ghosts are all superstition. Religion was humanity's first attempt at philosophy, we had no way of explaining the world around us so we came up with all powerful beings that governed everything that we didn't have an answer for. Humans would rather think they have an answer for everything as opposed to admitting that they don't quite understand certain things. In my opinion, humanity should outgrow this superstitious nonsense that was created in the childhood of our species. There are far greater things to be found in the realm of science than the Bible could ever offer. All you have to do is take a look at the Hubble Deep Field image to realize just how pathetic the burning bush really is in comparison.
Oh and in response to the Ouija board, that is caused by the idiomotor effect. Basically, people will subconsciously move the looking glass in a desired direction. In an experiment conducted by the legendary James Randi, a group of people were given a fake back story to a supposedly haunted house. While using the Ouija board these people constantly came up with words that all related to the same fake story. Doesn't matter if it's a group of people or not, the results are always the same. The Idiomotor effect also explains how Dowsers operate. Since the 70's James Randi has offered up a million dollars for anyone that can prove a paranormal claim and to this day no one has even come close. |

Oh and lunchy pretty much explained the whole "what if multiple people had the same experience?" argument. Humans are pattern seeking animals and our brain is programmed to recognize certain objects such as faces. If our brain has an electrical misfire due to some outside source, it is entirely possible that everyone in that area of effect could experience the same thing.

Well thats the problem isnt is? If there were a personal God that supposedly created us in his image and likeness only to send us to an eternity of torment simply because we don't praise him for giving us existence (something that is well within his ability considering he is supposedly "all powerful", it would be like me telling you to praise me for tying my shoe) then I would not want to live in the first place. The idea of faith is the willingness to surrender yourself to the ultimate totalitarian that is always watching you and can even convict you of thought crime. He tells you who you can and can't sleep with, what you cannot eat, on what day you may not work. I would find the world all the more horrible if these fables were true, but thankfully they have absolutely no evidence to support them. I have read the Bible 3 times and I can tell you that there is much more gratifying material in any science book then can be found in that literary propaganda.
