While I understand the most basic differences between a computer server, PS3 dedicated and PS3 listen, does a PS3 dedicated perform better than a listen?

Also, how is voip handled? Does the user P2P it to the other players?   Or, does the PS3 route it through the server that in turn sends voip to everyone?

In our townhouse next year, two of my friends coincidently have PS3s. Haha. If I were to host a server I didn't know if I should set one up as dedicated, while I play the other, or just have mine set to listen.

Sry for the long post and thx,

I used to host (dedicated) duels for some of my old clanmates in PcX from my PS3 and it worked really well. Obviously I can't tell you how much better than "listen".

dedicated is when your not taking part in the game

Yes, I'm wondering if I should just have a listen server OR play on a non-server PS3 with a second as a dedicated.

your best bet it to host a dedicated rather than a listen. When it comes to PC dedicated or ps3 dedicated im not sure if there's a difference

I would imagine since your not playing so the systems resources are tied in hosting only.

VOIP is handeled by a Push and then speak system, first you press the right -> on dpad a 10 second timer starts if in few moments UT3 hears no voice it stops the voice chat and you have to press right on the dpad again.  Not quite push to talk as you don't have to hold any button down, its nice though since it detects if your actually speaking or not, and knows to kill it when your done even if you have more time.

Have to say it works perfectly, note only people on your team will hear it.

Hmm that is a interesting conundrum.  Or you could buy more copies of UT3 and spread them around allowing you to play a even bigger match full of human meat bags.

When I've hosted a dedicated server from my secondary PS3 I can tell a difference between that and the same configuration running on my PC host.  PC host always seems more stable/smoother...PS3 hosts seem to glitch up here and there.

Besides that...I can leave my PC host up and running for weeks/months and I know as long as my internet connection stays up the server will be up....and if my internet connection does go down, as soon as it comes back up the server will show back up in the UT3 server browser without me having to do anything (no restart).  Can't do that from a PS3.

EDIT: oh and yeah...dedicated will perform better than listen as far as the other players are concerned.  It would be more fair...no one will have the advantage of playing from the host directly.
