Me & some my friends make hip hop songs and  ****. We are sort of serious/just messing around but if we get people to like us than me might tighten up.

We have a whole bunch of songs but most of them weren't really good and was crap. I am working on a song by myself so I will upload that one later. For now here is what we have:

If you like hip-hop/rap, please tell me what you like and don't like. Please grade HARD. Beats & Lyrics. Tell me what you think. This thread will be updated regularly.

www.myspace.com/marztrade

you can listen to the 2 songs he has on there. I will personal upload songs on here to make it easier using youtube. For now this is just a sample.

something i dont like is "commercial rap" like rapin about cars, money, jewerly...that sh!t is played out. if your gonna be serious, rap about something meaningful or something that takes time to write. not just the hottest flow comein off the top of yo head. Example. Nas-i gave you power(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUwJ8WcZ6RY) 3.30 mins of him personifying a gun. sh!t is ill and lyrically one of the best tracks i've heard. but i dunno, thats just imo. some commercial is ight.
also, beats are just as important as the lyrics. i like more piano type production, but as long as the beat go's with the lyrics, itz all good.
btw...that track "i like it" (on that myspace page)  is pritty dope.

One of the things I miss about Hip Hop is the sampling in the production work from the ninetees, that gave Hip Hop a Jazzier feel.

Think back to the jazz samples from Tribe, Diggable Planets, De La Soul, Beastie Boys.

Also miss that laid back flow

The big, the fat, the cool cool cats
The psychedelic soul puts the Planets on the map
The chic, the love, the far out name
The lack of the funk's the main why we came

Bumrush heres my Quick honest opinion,

The production work on the beats is dope! It has a dreamy psychaedelic, mushroom jazz feel to it
and I loved it. However, the flow and the rhymes didnt really grab me much.
the vocals seemed  weak and whiny and the lyrics/rhymes didn't make up for  underwhelming vocals.

It was really apparent when the two you were in unison, that did not work at all.
You guys definetly have potential, and im sure you'll find you voice with time.

The production work on the beats was aces.

A- on the beat. C- for the rhymes.

EDIT: just listened to second cut: "I like it" ... Definetly feeling this one more. Huge improvement ... sick beats too. B- for the rhymes and vocals.

love the beat, kinda feels oldschool..

the flow and delivery was good, lyrics alot better then most ppls amatuer **** and better then most of the **** on the radio too.

i dont get any whineyness from the vocals.. they fit the beat perfectly its like a masta ace track or de la soul

Thanks for responses. I wasn't rapping on there at all..LOL..That was my friends music and we are in the same group. Im going to upload my stuff soon. Me & Him are completely different type of rappers. Im more abstract with my lyrics but that make sense and stay on point. I choose to go beyond the normal wordplay. Also I choose more oldish beats to future style beats..nothing really in between. Either its old or its new. I also tend to rap about the ladies more than anything. I finished up 2 verses. Im just having trouble picking an instrumental and making the chorus.

I will upload it on youtube as soon as its complete like i said.
