After much speculation TES 5 has been announced. The suspicion that it would be set in Skyrim (with Bethesda having copyrighted the domain months ago) has proven correct. Sweet. Not much has been revealed except that the game runs on a 'new' engine and has a tentative release date of 11/11/11.
Teaser trailer: Sparse info on the engine: http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/12/12/confirmed-the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-will-use-an-entirely-new-engine/ |

Oblivion was the first game that I ever owned on PS3 & I still enjoy it to this day. Skyrim is an eternity away, but I'm definitely getting it on day one.

Oh yeah bro, Bethesda does have an amazingly creative talent for sculpting massively lush & beautiful worlds. But their post-launch support is really in the $hitter (read: patches for glitches & bugs). Plus M$ has its co¢k shoved so deep down Bethesda's throat that they literally $hit green turds. But even with these glaring, obvious faults, they're still one of my favorite developers. Right up there with Square, Insomniac & Naughty Dog.

The latest edition of Game Informer magazine came out and they feature the new Skyrim on the cover! Some of the new things: 1. You will be able to pick the perks you want for your character, just like you do in Fallout.2. Your character will not be able to back up from an enemy as quickly as you could in Oblivion. I didn't realize it but apparently your character, when backing away from an enemy, would go just as fast as when moving forward.... they wanted it to be a little more realistic in that way.
3. Now, when you talk to characters in the game, "...Conversations no longer occur in a zoomed-in view of the person you are speaking to....". The characters will continue to do whatever they are doing and might look at you occasionally.
They also got alot more voice actors to play the different parts so you don't hear the same person's voice coming from multiple characters like you did in Oblivion.
4. In the cities and towns you visit, there will be alot more activities to do... for example, forging and carving new weapons, farming, mining, woodcutting and cooking!!!!
5. One of the biggest changes to the combat is, ".....Every weapon or spell in the game can be equipped to either hand at any time, leading to limitless combinations of attack options. Dual wield two of the same weapon, or place a dagger in one hand and a mace in the other. .....Set two completely different spells in either hand, or put the same spell in both hands, letting you combine the spell to extraordinary effect!...."
6. You will be able to level up your character past level 50 it will just be slower.
I'll reread the article and add anything else that looks exciting!

Bethesda reworked the engine that makes the game AND they created a bunch of new technology for other aspects of the game. There is alot of info and I haven't finished looking at all of it yet....
One thing I will add after rereading the magazine article, (I hope I understood this correctly), is that it seems the old class system is gone! There are still three main archetypes: the warrior, the thief, and the Mage. But now, instead of choosing at the beginning the class you want to be, HOW you play will determine your strengths. The Leveling system is key:
The Leveling system ...."rewards experience for everything you do in the game....". They give the example, ".....use one-handed weapons, and your skill with them will improve. Cast lots of illusions, and your abilities within that school of magic will be amplified....". They changed this because most people like to fight in a combination of ways and not just focus on one.
Other Details:
1. Unlike in Oblivion, every wild animal you meet will now not necessarily attack you.
2. If you drop a weapon ingame that you want to just get rid of, a kid might pick it up and chase after you asking if you still need it, or someone else may pick it up and get into a fight!!
3. Bethesda hired a linguist to invent a REAL language for the game...it has 30 letters in the alphabet.
4. They completely dumped the old type of user interface of Oblivion and Fallout. You can read the article for the details but one very cool thing is that when you look at the map, you are able to hover and zoom around the whole Skyrim world, going over mountains and thru valleys, etc. It will be more three-dimensional instead of just a "flat" map!
5. Another addition to the fighting is something called "Dragon Shouts"....there are about 20 you can learn and they consist of words you string together. It's all tied in with the whole dragon theme of Skyrim. You have to work your way up to more and more powerful shouts even going on quests for them. Here is a link to more details about the shouts.

Agreed. i wonder if you're going to be able to create your character on this one to, they didn't show much like SYZYGY said. but i still play oblivion elders scrolls but from the looks of this one; if it has to do with skyrim then it's probably going to evolve around Nords like "Nords of skyrim" as you hear alot about throughout oblivion. but i think it will still be a great game to get.

Archangel,
Yes, you are exactly right about the Nordic aspect of Skyrim...They say that instead of the whole "Renaissance Fair" look of Oblivion, it will be set in the chilly climate of the north country.
As for creating your character, they say that there will even be MORE customization of your character than in Oblivion!!! The characters look far more realistic too....

Been playing this for awhile now...love the game overall but they should have included a fighting arena like they did in Oblivian.
