I think that they are directed towards both sexes, but this heavily depends on the game genre. For example Fighting games and FPSs seem to be advertised towards guys. Puzzle games, dating sims, and some RPGs seem to be advertised towards women. Do you think video games are a man’s toy? Absolutely not, I know some men who do not like videogames and some women who cannot put them down. Should women be playing video games? Explain. Yes, women should be playing videogames. Everyone should do what they want to do. Also a part of videogames now is about social interaction and everyone (men and women) like to interact with the opposite sex so women playing videogames helps a great deal. 2) Is it weird seeing women play video games? Explain. At first it was for me, since I'm an old school gamer who used to play in the video arcades... a place where there were no women. Now, I do not consider it weird.... times change and I would expect women to play. 3) Do you think there are a lot of female gamers online? I think there are, but they are definately playing games that I do not play... 4) Do you like playing video games with women online? Explain. Yes, since they are more willing to play fair and are more considerate than guys. Example: women do not talk as much trash to men, as men do to men. 5) What sort of games do you think women should and/or shouldn’t play? They should play anything they like. 6) Do you act differently when there are female’s playing with you online? Yes I do. I am actually more considerate and I watch what I say, so I don’t offend anyone. 7) Who is your favourite female video game character and why? Bayonetta, since she kicks @ss and has a sense of humour 8) Do you think female gamers are “hot”? Explain. Any female gamer that plays the same or similar games as me is hot. Most of the time you never see their real life picture, so I like to imagine that they are hot. I guess I’m an optimist… 9) When you see a female gamer online do you think she could be competition within the game? It does not matter what sex the gamer is, they are all competition until proven otherwise. 10) What are your views on female gamers? Likes and Dislikes. Hmmmm… this is a little vague…. I have no problems with female gamers. I guess my likes and dislikes would be the same as male gamers and also depending on who I was playing with… |

It depends of the type of game. Some aim a male public and other a female one. Why wouldn’t women play video games ?! Lots of types … for the moment it’s UT3 99,9 % of the time but I already played LBP, NFS, HalfLife, Quake, GTA etc etc etc. As for the reason, check the answer at question 1 5) When you play online how do men react? Those who don’t know me ?! … some of them are surprised “Oh, you’re a chick!!” Most of them are respectful, polite and fun to play … but there are exceptions too 6) Do you come across a lot of female gamers online? Nope, not that much (I mean on the game I play ---> UT3) but there are a few ones 7) Do you like the female gamers online? Those who play for the game, yes 8) Do you think more women should play video games online and offline? Explain. Most of the female characters in video games are just like models in real life. The game designers point out the sexiest female assets : breasts, bottom, eyes, hair… etc. In the same time, I guess that’s a commercial strategy. I don’t really mind it as long as people keep in mind that’s only a “character” and that real life is full of normal people 10) Who is your favourite female video game character and why? I don’t have one 11) As a female gamer, do men try to hit on you (ask for pictures, webcam, etc.)? What are your feelings on this? Some of them, yes, as they consider that a woman playing an online game has no real life and she is only looking for “company”. It’s annoying, especially when they hit you with numerous pms or when they talk to you in a sexist manner. 12) Do male gamers expect you to be “Hot” (good looking) because you’re a female gamer? Is there pressure to be ‘good looking’? Explain. I don’t know … ask the male gamers for that one Nope, no pressure here as there are very few chances that my e-friends see me in real life. 13) Do male gamers play/act differently with you because you're female? Do you feel you are treated differently? Explain Most of them yes : less trash talking when I’m around which I really appreciate. it really does depend on the genre of the game.. usually shoting games and violent games are advertised to males whilst games in the fitness genre are advertised to woman... however singing games are advertised to both sexes... so it doe just depend on the genre.. and yes woman have the same right as men to play games 2) Is it weird seeing women play video games? No because I dont let on that i'm a girl? and the ones that actually hear me talk before they get muted and ask me if im a girl/friend request I say im a gay dude, and I feel that any girl with a girl leading psn or a girl clan tag or anything at all referring to them as being a girl should be the one to blame if they get hit on, if you dont like it and are just there to play a video game, then it shouldnt be shared with the world that your a girl playing a video game, its their own fault for getting hit on.

I play videogames for a few reasons: -I’m competitive, so gaming is perfect for me to test out my skills against other players -When I don’t have school, work, or a party to go to I stay home and game it up. -Most of my friends are gamers and my parents game as well -to let out my anger and frustration -They are fun and challenging and I just so happen to be good at them -I’m really into action, adventure, Sci-Fi, horror, and fantasy so when I play a video games of either of those genres I feel like I can connect with a whole other world rather than reality. 2) Do you feel that video games are marketed for men (a man's toy)? The way females characters are portrayed in videogames are very much alike as how females are advertised through the media… beautiful, skinny, nice breasts & bottom, long legs, perfect eyes…perfect everything! I find it very annoying and disrespectful, I don’t want to play videogames for the sake of being recognized for my looks, I want to be acknowledged for my skill. When I play a game and I just so happen to use my microphone, I would hope to be treated with respect rather than a piece of meat. Explain. I’m not sure, I don’t think it matters really. The only pressure I’ve felt to be considered “good looking” is when I get compared to other female gamers. Explain I’ve noticed a lot in my UT3 gaming career that guys would take it easy on me after I had asked them not to just for the sake of me feeling good about myself! Seriously I’d rather get my arse handed to me over and over again through hard work, and obtain greater skills rather than be tricked into thinking and practically handed over the kills. than there are other guys that treat me like everyone else...they don't take it easy on me and they talk crap when i perform sh!tty in game... that's the treatment i prefer to be honest! helps me improve my game play. In all honesty when a female joins a game you can hear a difference in some of the guys.. they start focusing all there chat towards her? its up to the female to set her own standards ingame imo
There aren't many female gamers from what ive seen ingame. I think most games are gear"d more towards guys because thats the bigger market atm NO females are not hott ingame!!! There either good players or there not! some clowns might not agree though :) Online gaming is great because you can play and chat with people all around the world.. I can't speak for the females but i don't see any issue with guys and girls wanting to game with eachother and be friends.. in most every case you'll never meet so what does it matter? As for online hook ups? I think it could be dangerous so id be very wary if i were a female! Just have fun and if some dude is being a jerk or to forward tell him to chill or switch teams. If he stalks report his ass. |

1) Why do you play video games? What do you like about it? I enjoy reading fiction and watching movies for entertainment. Gaming allows me to interact in that fiction and get enjoyment from that interaction. I play for fun and in some cases to help me detach myself from daily stresses. 2) Do you feel that video games are marketed for men (a man's toy)? Should women play video games? I do think that the majority of games are targeted towards men but do not exclude women by doing that... it's all a matter of interest and opinion with these things. Of course women should play video games if they want to, if that's what interests them. 3) Are video games made in a way that appeals to and accommodates female gamers online and offline? In some cases yes and in some cases no. Games like GTA I feel are targeted at men... not many women are going to want to take her character off to "rock the casbah" with a hooker in the back of a stolen buick. Where as games like final fantasy extended a game to make it more female orientated ie FFX-2 and the whole dress sphere thing. 4) What video games do you play and why? I prefer RPG and action adventure games. Final Fantasy, Prince of Persia, ICO, Kingdom Hearts, for example. I prefer games based in complete fiction rather than partial reality... I'm a fantasy addict ;) 5) When you play online how do men react? Generally I don't have an instant problem with men online. Most don't comment or seem phased by it at all. Some are surprised to see a woman playing video games. Some do change the way they behave and I have to say that some of the guys I have played with on a semi-regular basis are very nice to me when they know it's me they're playing with but when I've played on an alt account they've cussed me out and been really very nasty... needless to say I don't really play with them anymore. A few get stalker-ish and really creep me out. 6) Do you come across a lot of female gamers online? A few, but it's a small percentage. This doesn't include the one's who don't have mics or who don't have obviously female names. 7) Do you like the female gamers online? I like people for who they are not for what's in their underwear. Behaviour speaks volumes to me and I will dislike someone based only upon behaviour. I like some female gamers, just as I like some male ones. Whether male or female there are tw@ts among both $exes. 8) Do you think more women should play video games online and offline? Explain. I think women shouldn't feel intimidated by the prospect of playing video games, not necessarily that they should actually play them because as I said it's all about interest levels. 9) What are your opinions about the way female characters in video games are portrayed as well as the roles they play? Do you like it? Explain. Obviously since the majority of gamers are male the female image has been and will be used in games with varying degrees of $exuality. I couldn't care less how female characters are portrayed... that kind of stuff doesn't phase or offend me. I wouldn't kick up a fuss about semi-naked female characters in games, or sexy femme fatal characters because changing that would change the enjoyment that people get from playing the game. 10) Who is your favourite female video game character and why? Lulu from FFX. Reminds me a little of myself in terms of attitude, dry humour and a few other "aspects" 11) As a female gamer, do men try to hit on you (ask for pictures, webcam, etc.)? What are your feelings on this? Some do yes. Sometimes I'm nice about it and make a joke of it but other times I tear them a new a$$ hole. I think it's BS. I don't often let pictures of myself get seen and that's my choice. If someone is going to ask me for pictures or information about myself that's the last thing they're getting. 12) Do male gamers expect you to be “Hot” (good looking) because your a female gamer? Is there pressure to be ‘good looking’? Explain. I think there is a mixed preconception in respects to this. I think that people make judgements based upon how you sound and act. If you're not flirtatious then they expect you to be fugly unless proven otherwise. If you are flirtatious then they get a $exy vibe from you and then they expect you to be hot unless proven otherwise. I think there is pressure to look good yes... there's pressure to show yourself and if people don't like what they see then you get ridiculed. Who cares what people look like... your personality speaks for you. 13) Do male gamers play/act differently with you because you're female? Do you feel you are treated differently? Explain Yes and Yes. Like I said above, I have played with some guys on my PcX account where I am known to be a woman and have been treated nicely, then played on an alt account and been verbally abused by the same people... funny really. |

QUESTIONS FOR THE GUYS ON THIS SITE 1) Do you think video games are advertised and directed towards guys? Do you think video games are a man’s toy? Should women be playing video games? Explain. 2) Is it weird seeing women play video games? Explain. 3) Do you think there are a lot of female gamers online? 4) Do you like playing video games with women online? I just like playing challenging games with like minded gamers - M/F doesnt figure with me 5) What sort of games do you think women should and/or shouldn’t play? 6) Do you act differently when there are female’s playing with you online? 7) Who is your favourite female video game character and why? 8) Do you think female gamers are “hot”? Explain. 9) When you see a female gamer online do you think she could be competition within the game? 10) What are your views on female gamers? Likes and Dislikes. I like that they are breaking the mould but ppl hear girls on the mic and some guys trip outright - missing out on real life guys, hone ur skills in that arena. |
