Curious if you guys know what other usb head phones are compatable with ps3 other than the $80 turtle beach headphones?  Is there a off name brand or something that works that is cheaper?

Try Logitech, thats the one I use. they're about $30 and they work great!

logitech doesn't make headphones lol. logitech is a wired mic.
you can find cheap headphones at wal-mart i believe. just depends on how big your wal-mart is. i found some cheap ones one day but it was awhile back. also go check the turtlebeach website for cheaper ones

i just looked that up tuna bout the logitech ones, also i looked at turtle beach n doesnt seem like they have a cheaper one.  i dont think all headphones work cause i try'd a hp set an they didnt.  so not sure if you can just buy any at wal-mart that will be compatable.

From the vast research I have done on the subject, you aren't going to get game audio from USB. You have a couple choices.

You can get game audio straight from the TV either from a headphone jack (if your TV has one) or you can use audio out with RCA (red/white) cables. If you use audio out, you're going to need headphones with in-line volume control or some device that can adjust volume. That's pretty much what most of these 'PS3 headphones' do; they use the audio out from the TV (or accept the audio signal straight from the PS3 with RCA cables) and then offer some form of in-line volume control.

The other option is using the digital out with a toslink cable. But then you're going to have to feed the signal through either some stereo receiver or DAC.

If you want a cheap solution to this, get some cheap headphones with in-line volume control and an RCA to 3.5mm cable. If you want a quality solution (and don't want to spend a super ton of money), get the Astro MixAmp and some quality headphones (don't buy the Astro A40's).

i think when he said "usb headphones" he was talking about the usb cord on your HP that hooks up to your ps3. good info though! it could help someone out

I get the feeling there's some confusion between 'headphones' and 'headsets' here. To me, it sounded like the original poster wants something that will allow him to hear game sounds and voice chat (headphones), but people are talking about headsets, which will only allow him to hear voice chat.

There are no usb headphones for PS3, as far as I know. You have to use either RCA or digital audio out for game sounds.

i am talking about headphones.. and my headphones hook up to the t.v. and ps3..

^^ yeah, if you look at how they work, you see they use USB for the mic and RCA cables for game audio. Also, I remember reading that some of those Turtle Beach had an annoying buzz to them (don't remember if it was that particular model though).

I like the Astro MixAmp because it allows me to use any headphones I want with it. Big smile
